Australian Labradoodle Coats
Generally, the Fleece coat is low to non shedding and wavy.curlyfleece It hangs down in tendrils that flow and ripple when the dog moves.curlyfleece It can be very curly, teddy bear looking or straighter looking but will have a soft texture and feel to it, similar to the Angora goat fleece.curlyfleece The ideal Fleece coat is a single coat, any sign of a double coat is a fault and will be considered an undesirable trait for breeding purposes.
The Wool coat is more dense to the touch and hangs in loose hollow spirals that grow tighter as they lengthen.curlyfleece This is the only coat that can be curly, wavy or straight.curlyfleece It is the most allergy and asthma friendly coat. The ideal Wool coat will be a single coat and have a soft texture and the appearance of sheep’s wool. This is the most common wool coat seen in Australian labradoodles.
A very curly coat is the Wool/Wool Plus, it is the most allergy and asthma friendly and requires slightly more grooming than the wavy fleece or curly wool coats.curlyfleece This coat will need to be brushed/combed thoroughly about every other day, or daily to minimize matting and tangles.curlyfleece This coat will also need to be trimmed about three to four times per year. All Australian labradoodles go through a transition from puppy to adult coat between the ages of 7 and 15 months, this is when the hair coat starts to shed and the new Fleece/Wool coat begins to take its place. This is when it is a good idea to have your doodle groomed more often and at least once a week.
